I wrote this short story - it is something I would like to do myself. A group of females that pray together and commit to "Word Fasting". Idea for the 40-day-fasting period that starts tomorrow :-)
#Word #fasting.
Introduction
I recently founded a so-called “Positivity Group”. A Christian group for females that discusses and tries to maintain what is written in the following bible verse: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” This verse is written in Ephesians 4:29 and it attached my attention when I read the article “Guarded by our Words”, written by Judy Ahern in the most recent MorningStar Journal (Winter 2026 edition of January/February 2026, refer to: Vision | publications.morningstarministries.org). She reports of a sermon of Rick Joyner from MorningStar Fellowship Church who motivated the congregation to participate in a forty-day word fast from critical and cynical speech.
It is not for the first time that I think I should change my way of thinking, which has a direct impact on my personal mood, on the way I talk and on the topics on which I concentrate. Talking positively changes relationships and one’s own mindset. It opens your thinking towards opportunities and breaks off barriers that hinder you to forward and to succeed. It enables you to communicate “detox-free” and with a positive attitude towards and with other people.
When thinking about how to set up such a “Positivity Group”, I first invited some of my colleagues, neighbours and friends and managed to run a small group of five women that meet each Thursday night at 7 pm for supper. We talk about our personal queries and conflicts we experienced in the past week - and about our attempts as to how to overcome these in a positive way. Especially when we were confronting challenging communicative scenarios. Be it in the family, on the job or in leisure time. We focus on little successes we made, and we define communicative best-practice solutions. We do not only talk about real-life examples, we pray together and for each other. That is called intercession.
To make our challenges more vivid and transparent, we play little role games to practice and to improve the way we react – or even better – the way we pro-actively manage uncomfortable situations. We motivate each other to stay positive – in what we think and in what we say. Because we are not the tail; we are the head – refer to Deuteronomy 28:13, NKJV:
“And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them".
„Life talk LIVE“ in our group
“Hi Ladies, it is a pleasure to have you with me this evening. Hope you are all fine.”
Linda: “Thanks for inviting me!”
Susan: “Happy to be here.”
Georgia: “So many nice woman – I instantly feel loved and accepted!”
“For the newbies that joined us today, I am giving you a brief intro to our group and on what we do.
That is what we stand for: we are a group of Christian female leaders who practice what is written in the scriptures. We do not want to be women that do the gossip and we do not make others small and inferior. I point this out to clarify the difference. We talk what is good, what is pleasant, what is uplifting and what helps each other to maintain a good mood and a positive attitude. We walk what is good, we help each other to make a career and to become the heads – be it in our family lives or in business. Do you have any questions or remarks to start off?”
“I feel blessed to be here and I would like to share with you a challenging situation with which I was confronted this week”, Anna starts. “Maybe you guys do have some recommendations for me as to how I should cope with the situation. You know that I study information technology in Toronto Hightech University. I like my studies a lot but I have a very big problem with one of my professors who teaches the so-called calculation of probabilities. In fact, we must program random generators or calculators which I find more than frightful. I tried to talk to my professor on this topic and about the possibility to skip that topic and take another subject instead, but she insisted that I would have to take the course or otherwise discontinue my studies. I do not know what to do, what to answer? I studied almost two years now and did not know that I would struggle that much with this topic, also belief-wise…”
“That is a difficult situation you are in, Anna.”
“It is…”, Susan acknowledges.
“So let’s pray together: Dear God, please give Linda the right decision. Show her how to communicate best with her professor. Open new doors for her and give her a new perspective. Your ways are the best and your thoughts are so much higher than ours. Please show to Linda, how she should act, what to say and how to continue.”
“Thanks.” Anna agrees, “it is best to place it in the hands of the LORD.”
“I wish you wisdom and strength, Anna”, Susan continues. “I did have a quite calm week but there was one accident that touched and disturbed me deeply. It was when I heard that a fellow classmate of one of my girls died in a car crash. The whole class was shocked, and I prayed together with the mother of the child and the class teacher. I think it would do her good to join the group, the mother I mean. Would it be ok, if I brought her along next time?”
“Of course, what an awful situation she is in. Let’s pray for her now: Please God, give this woman strength and hope. Please do not let her fall into depression. Send her people that help to overcome this tragedy and let us as a group be part of her uplifting team. Show us how we can help best.”
“What about you, Georgia, how was your week and any challenges that we should discuss in our group?”
“I have learned something important this week, I started to ‘detox’ from negative thinking and talking. Which is not always easy because our office is full of gossip and negative talk. The numbers are low, the business is going down, which challenges the whole team of employees. There is a lot of fighting to hold the job positions and as people cannot easily be made redundant, some of the bosses even try it with mobbing. Please let us pray for the situation to change, please let us pray that God sends us a strong management that leads with faith and positivity. One that deals with our fears and insecurities and one that bans all the power games.”
“In Jesus name, I pray for the business where Georgia works, and for her colleagues. Please change the atmosphere. Please enter with a new spirit so that people work together instead of fighting each other. I pray that the disturbers leave and that new positive minds join the company who are blessed and, in a position, to change the whole dark situation. Let someone come into this business who is strong and bold, someone who can lead the people with positivity and who has the knowledge to turn around the business into the right direction. I pray that you change this now and I thank you, that we can already receive by believing. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.”
“Let’s talk about something uplifting for next week: on Wednesday, the 40-days-fasting period starts. Lots of people contribute in fasting of all kinds. Why not promote our #Word #Fasting in the areas where we live and work? I have prepared some flyers that explain the idea. We might even found more groups such as ours in future. Feel free to take these handouts with you and hand them over to your friends, family members and colleagues.”
“That’s great. Wow, they look nice.”
“Cool.”
“Great idea!”
“Thanks.”
